21 Days of Fitmas

Okay, now this is going to be fun!!! The holidays make it so easy and fun to switch up my challenge groups - and I am excited to announce my next group - 21 Days of Fitmas Featuring Autumn the Elf! Wouldn't it be awesome to enjoy Thanksgiving, then start a 21 Day fitness and nutrition program (with wiggle room for holiday treats) and drop up to 15 pounds before Christmas... Sounds good to me!!!

I want you to thrive during the holidays - not pig out, not starve and be cranky but to really feel
amazing... that is my goal! And I will provide you all the tips and tools to get you there!

This Challenge will start November 29th with a preseason, during this time I will give you all the tips and tools on how to start successfully! Then we will kick off on December 3rd (it's a Thursday, I know that is a little weird, but this way we are done right before Christmas).

Holiday Survival Guide

Tis the season for excuses - fa-la-la-la-la... Right? No time, no money, too many temptations... I get it, but I also get how you can make this a fun healthy time of the year to either maintain all your hard work or jump start those New Year's Goals! This is my second holiday season in my clean eating lifestyle and coaching others through this time... My challengers are just trying to survive during this time, but I want them to thrive!

People who are successful with weight loss or maintaining during the holiday season have a few things in common, like...

  • With everything, I believe you have to have a strong WHY - to fight that urge to eat that  second cookie, to fight the urge to sleep in when you should be working out... It's that deep down in the gut reason you want to change!
  • They believe it! They have the faith that if they put the hard work in, that it will pay off! They get out of the mindset that 'this is going to take too long' or get impatient. They don't second guess the program, they follow the plan with faith that they will get to their goals - maybe faster than they wanted, maybe slower - but they will get there!
  • 80 percent of weight loss and maintenance is nutrition... successful people follow their meal plans! It's the painful truth, you can't out exercise a poor diet. Sorry, believe me - I wish it wasn't true. Successful people set their intentions for the day, they go into a holiday party with the mind set that they will only drink water, or one have 2 bites of dessert..

 

But even with faith, a nutrition plan and a strong why - we could all use some tips! Here are my favorites!

  •  Don't focus on the food
    • All too often when we go to an occasion, we are thinking and asking "what are they going to have to eat there?" Because lets face it, food is apart of every occasion - the meal, the dessert, the candy table, the appetizers and sugary drinks... You could easily undo several workouts in one event... The funny thing is, the food should not be the focus... The people should be, the reason to celebrate should be!
  • Offer to bring a dish
    • Offering to bring a dish to the event is a great way to stick with your new habits, you can bring something that is fun and different and that fits into your meal plan! So you don't have to stress, you know that at least one thing that will be there is something you like and will work for you to help you reach your overall goals
  • A little splurge isn't a game changer
    • Okay, so your Aunt made your favorite dessert! Take a small piece, that's right... A small splurge won't ruin everything (if you read my blog article about zig zag dieting you know that cheat meals are okay here and there).. BUT there is a catch, just because you had that one cheat, doesn't mean you can have 10 pieces and some to go home with and oh hell, since I ruined today I will just have a burger with extra mayo... NO! Just a small taste, just enough to enjoy it... My advice - chew it very slowly! haha
  • Don't show up hungry!
    • Biggest mistake! On my way to a party, I grab a piece of fruit, a Shakeo or even a full meal.. That way when I show up to the party I am not hungry and as tempted to hit the buffet! Then I can have more of a snack as opposed to a meal!
  • Stay hydrated

  • Have an accountability partner
    • Find a running partner or coach in this journey and make a commitment to share food pics or daily accountability. Knowing you have someone to report to, might just keep your hand out of the cookie jar!
  • Get into a challenge group
    • With daily tips, 24/7 accountability from coaches and peers, recipes and meal plans - it is the perfect way to stay on top of your why, nutrition plan and faith...

I'm in love - seriously! I drink my Shakeology for lunch, which just so happens to be my 'tired time' - I wake up with energy, I drag mid day and I usually have a decent amount of night time energy... The natural caffeine gave me an immediate boost without feeling jittery (which I was afraid of because I do not drink coffee or other caffeine products) and I felt more energized than usual as the afternoon and evening went on.

I did not notice any texture or taste changes to my Shakeology (I do blend with ice)

The only downfall I see, is that I can't share this with my girls - because lets face it, who in their right mind would give their very active kids something that would increase their energy? ;)

Crockpot Rotel Chicken

This idea came from a challenger of mine! And it is going to be a new staple in my meal plan! Simple as can be, fabulous and you can make it in a crockpot! Total Win!

What you need:
Erin Traill, Diamond Beachbody Coach, healthy crockpot recipe, rotel, chicken taco, fall recipe, clean eating recipe, weight loss success, weight loss journey, fit mom, nurse, Pittsburgh
  • 1 pound of boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 can of Rotel (no salt added)
  • 2 tbsp 21 Day Fix Southwest seasoning or Chicken Taco seasoning
What you need to do:
  1. Toss everything (including the juice from the rotel can) in a crockpot
  2. Add 1/2 cup of water
  3. Cover and turn on low
  4. Cook for 6-8 hours
  5. Shred chicken

Superfood and Protein Packed Cookie Dough

Me, personally - sometimes I just crave something sweet... and I want it to hold me over until my next meal... and in comes this recipe! Superfoods, protein and filling enough to keep me satisfied until my next meal - perfect! But it gets better - there is no baking and only on dish involved! Ready?

What you need:

  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter, heated
  • 1/4 cup of vanilla greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp of agave
  • 1 scoop of Vanilla Shakeology
  • 2 tbsp. mini dark chocolate chips

What you need to do:

  1. Heat peanut butter on low
  2. Remove from heat and add yogurt, agave and shakeology
  3. Allow to cool a little
  4. Add chocolate chips
  5. Form in to balls and refrigerate for 2 hours
  6. ENJOY!

Turn over a New Leaf Challenge

November is all about being thankful. There are so many things to be thankful for, and at the top of my list is my health and wellness - because face it, without health nothing else really matters! I am going to take 30 days to treat my body the way it deserves while focusing on positive thinking and mindset changes... I am going to be rewarding my body with wholesome food and 30 minutes of working out.. And I am inviting you to join me...

I feel like with the holidays, school and a new job - I am all over the place with my fitness journey.... But I have a big scary goal for late February and I need to commit 110%!  So time to get back at it, no waiting for the New Year for this momma!

I am currently doing T25 with the 21 Day Fix meal plan and as I am tracking my food - I am realizing one too many cheats and one too many missed workouts.. I love new challenge groups because they give me a fresh start to motivate and inspire which helps me stay more accountable too!

Crockpot Beef Tips!

Fabulous! Ahh, switching it up - ready for a recipe without chicken for once? haha... I usually make this and just toss the beef tips in, but I wanted to thicken up the broth so I floured and pan fried the beef first - not sure it made a huge difference though!

What you need:
  • 1 pound lean beef tips
  • 1 pound of baby carrots
  • 1 pound of mini potatoes
  • 2 cups low sodium beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 onion, diced
What you need to do:
  1. Optional - heat 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil in a frying pan. Lightly flour beef tips and quickly brown in the oil
  2. Add to crockpot - along with all the above
  3. Sprinkle with pepper
  4. Cook on low for 6-8 hours!

Reese's Shakeology

So after a few, okay maybe more like a lot of candy sneaks - especially my favorite Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, I am fighting these chocolate cravings as I try to get on track... I am not the most popular person in my house right now, as I tossed 95% of the candy from Halloween - Let's face it, it isn't healthy for anyone!
 
So now that I introduced this sugar into my body, I am craving it - time to kick these cravings! And here we go! Reese's Peanut Butter Shakeology!

What you need:

  • Chocolate Shakeology
  • 1 cup Almond Milk
  • 2 tsp Natural Peanut Butter
  • 10 ice cubes
  • PB2
  • Dark Chocolate Chips

What you need to do:

  1. In a blender, add in this order - almond milk, ice cubes, peanut butter, and shakeology.
  2. Blend
  3. Pour into a glass and top with pb2 and a few chocolate chips
  4. Enjoy!
